Air Force Drops Season Finale Against California Baptist, 3-2

USAF ACADEMY – California Baptist outscored Air Force in their Senior Day match, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in the Holaday Athletic Center. The Falcons finalize the 2023 campaign at 1-14-2 with a 1-5-1 mark in Western Athletic Conference action. The Lancers secured the No. 2 seed for the WAC Tournament and finalize their regular season at 7-5-4, 5-1-2 WAC.

The scoring opened in the 18th minute by Leo Mendez, who gave the Lancers the early 1-0 lead. Air Force answered 20 minutes later with a goal from Thaddaeus Dewing, his third this season, via assist from Alex Mercier to send the game into halftime level at 1-1. After the break, Mendez secured his brace, scoring again in the 59th minute, assisted by Drew Hardin.

Luis Mueller would add a crucial insurance goal in the 87th minute as Falcon team captain Federico Mion scored his third goal in 2023 via Dewing's touch in the 89^th minute. Mueller's goal would prove to be the game-winner as AF was unable to rally the equalizer in the final minute.

Senior keeper Jakob Stone made four saves in his defensive effort.

Dewing capped his career with a team-high 22 career goals and nine career assists for 53 career points. Nine seniors in Michael Fey, Wills Burns, Brandon Cobb, Thaddaeus Dewing, Gregory Hill, Federico Mion, Alex Mercier, Remi Smith, and Jakob Stone played their final match as Falcons and were honored for Senior Day prior to kickoff.

Air Force will officially bring the season to a close at the team banquet later this Fall.
