Fonseca leads Falcons on final day at CU Invite

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Alvaro Fonseca led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Colorado National Golf Course in Erie, Colo.
Fonseca posted three birdies over seven holes on the front side and finished with a 75 (+3). Freshman Eli Huntington made three birdies on day, including back-to-back on Nos. 17 and 18 for a 76 (+4). Freshman Carson Baker shot a 77, but played his first 10 holes in one-under with one birdie and nine pars. Senior Aaron Kuznik made three birdies and finished at 77 as junior Cameron Kahle shot 80. Playing as individuals, Christopher Park shot 77 and Grant Samuelson shot 83.
Huntington was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament with a 225 (+9). Fonseca and Kuznik each shot 230, followed by Kahle (233) and Baker (234).
San Francisco held off a furious Colorado rally to win the team title with an 845 (-19). Colorado, the host school, shot a 276 (-8) in the final round, but finished second at 847 (-17). UTEP and Colorado State tied for third at 854 (-10). Air Force was 17th at 914.
Air Force returns to action Monday-Tuesday, Oct, 9-10, at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational in Wichita, Kansas.
