Air Force Wraps Up Fall Slate of Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team wrapped up its fall slate of Friday Night Fights this afternoon (Nov. 17), with 11 intersquad contests. Bookended by a pair of 205-pound contests, 14 men and eight women stepped into the ring of the Cadet Gym Boxing Room for the final time of the fall competition season.
Senior Joe Wilson and sophomore Alexander Thue opened and closed the day with victories in the two 205-pound, heavyweight bouts, as Wilson decisioned classmate Nasir Rashid and Thue earned a victory over freshman Justin Bonilla when the referee stopped their bout before the final bell.
Thue was one of four Falcons to earn wins by referee stoppage. Sophomore Carson Watkins earned the RSC win over freshman Freddy Ceciliano Jr. in a 131-pound contest, while fellow freshman Josh White and sophomore Jaxon Wardle earned referee-stopped wins in the night's back-to-back 161-pound bouts. White defeated fellow freshman Roman Jacobson in the first contest, while Wardle followed that up with a victory over classmate Michael Scappaticci in the second bout.
Sophomore Jake Edwards earned a decision over first-year Falcon Noah Gilley in a 156-pound bout, while freshman Jonathon Watson rounded out the men's list of victors with a 180-pound decision over classmate Ellison Taylor.
On the women's side, all four contests were determined by decision. Sophomore Elise Bell earned a 141-pound victory over freshman Ella Bryars, while fellow freshman Julianna Morris received the judges' votes in her 140-pound bout with junior Cass Rosa. Sophomore Chinonye Mbanugo earned a split decision over junior Billie Botes in the 151-pound fight, while sophomore Charlotte McPhee-Gillum won her 115-pound bout with freshman Naomi Brabham by a split vote.
The Falcons close officially close out the fall semester on Monday (Nov. 20) night, when select boxers travel to New York City for the famed Arthur Mercante Invitational.
