No. 21 West Virginia Bests Air Force, 27-11

USAF ACADEMY – The Falcons won three weight classes but fell to No. 21 West Virginia in Big 12 dual action, 27-11, Friday evening in Clune Arena. Air Force drops to 2-1 in dual meets while the Mountaineers improve to 5-1, 1-1 Big 12.
Falcon sophomore Brenden Barnes was the first to put points up for Air Force, besting Davin Rhoads, 5-3, with a convincing performance in the 133 division.
WVU rattled off wins from 141 to 174 as five-straight ranked wrestlers outscored the Falcons in their respective divisions. No. 28 Ty Watters put up six points via pin in the 149 class while teammates No. 28 Caleb Dowling, No. 12 Peyton Hall, and No. 29 Brody Conley scored three straight major decision wins at 157, 165, and 174, respectively.
The Falcons got back in the win column behind No. 8 Sam Wolf who dictated the pace for seven minutes, outscoring No. 24 Dennis Robin, 6-1. Wolf is 8-2 on the season so far. At 197, Calvin Sund was a half-second away from victory but takedown in the last second was called off— Sund dropped the match, 4-2, to No. 28 Austin Cooley.
In the final bout of the night, senior All-American No. 2 Wyatt Hendrickson performed as expected, scoring an immediate takedown followed up with three-straight four-point near fall tilts, posting a 15-0 technical fall over No. 23 Michael Wolfgram in just 80 seconds.
Next up, the Falcons hit the road to take on Big 12 foe No.3 Missouri, on Sunday (Dec. 17). Action in the Hearnes Center is slated for a 7 p.m. CT.
