Air Force Defeats Navy, 4-2, in College MatchDay at USTA Center

Air Force men's tennis defeated Navy (7-9), 4-2, Saturday night in College MatchDay at the USTA Center in Orlando, Fla. It was the first win in program history over the Midshipmen and lifted the Falcons to 8-1 on the season.

A day after suffering its first loss of the season to North Florida, the Falcons came back the next day with a win.

Navy led early after taking the doubles point by winning the tiebreaker in the third and deciding doubles match. Navy won at No. 2 doubles, before the Falcons came back with a win at No. 1 doubles to tie it up. Nick Vroman and Justin Waldman defeated Luke Garner/Panyan 6-4 at No. 1. Navy then won the No. 3 doubles match for the point.

The Falcons flipped the script in singles by going 4-1.

Vroman opened with a win at No. 1 over Sasha Panyan in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to tie it up. Navy went back ahead 2-1 win a win at No. 5.

Jack Brown tied the match back up with a win at No. 6 for the Falcons, defeating Aniketh Ayinala 6-2, 6-3. Phillip Deaton then won at No. 4 over Herrick Legaspi in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to put the Falcons ahead 3-2.

Arjun Kersten then clinched with a win at No. 2 over Gavin Segraves in three sets 7-6, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 to send Air Force to the win. It was the first win in four tries for the Falcons against Navy.

Both women's teams also competed against each other, with Navy winning 4-2.

"I was so proud of how the team fought back in singles," head coach Dan Oosterhous said. "It was a very physical match and our guys showed how tough they are tonight."
