Falcons end Liberty Classic with 9-3 win over Black Knights

CLEBURNE, Texas- The Falcons were on the losing end of consecutively-tough results the past two days. On Sunday, Air Force left no doubt, taking down Army 9-3 in the concluding game of the inaugural Liberty Classic.

Seungmin Shim was exactly what the Falcons needed on the mound, as the junior southpaw allowed just one run over 6.0 innings. Shim earned the Falcons first win of 2023, having surrendered just baserunners while striking out five.

Jay Thomason regained the power stroke on Sunday, finishing the afternoon 3-5 with 1 HR, 1 3B and 5 RBI. His 1st inning two-run blast put the Falcons on the board first, a no-doubter over the right field fence.

Sam Kulasingam was again the table-setter for the Falcons, putting together a 3-4 day with a RBI. Kulasingam has started the new season 10-12 (.833) with 3 2B's and 3 RBI.

Chase Spencer swatted his second dinger of the weekend, lining a home run to left field to open the bottom of the 7th. Spencer also drove in a run with a sac fly in the 8th, finishing 1-3 with a run scored.

Jake Greiving, Aerik Joe, and Trayden Tamiya each had two hits as well.

Sawyer Hawks entered the game to start the 7th, and did enough to earn a three-inning save. Hawks struggled to throw strikes (4 BB, 2 wild pitches), but allowed just two runs over the game's final nine outs to lock down Air Force's first win of 2023. The sophomore picked up his first save of the year in the process.

Next, Air Force heads to Norman to play the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday, February 20. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm MT.
