The outdoor portion of the 2023 track and field season gets underway this weekend (March 17-18), when Air Force travels to Pueblo for the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational.
MEET INFORMATION
The Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational will be held at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl. The triple jump, hammer throw and javelin throw will take place on Friday (March 17) afternoon, while the remainder of events will take place on Saturday (March 18). TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
FRIDAY – 3:00 p.m.: Women's Javelin Throw, followed by Men's Javelin Throw; 3:00 p.m.: Men's Hammer Throw, followed by Women's Hammer Throw; 3:00 p.m.: Men's Triple Jump, followed by Women's Triple Jump; SATURDAY – 9:00 a.m.: 10,000-Meter Run, 4x100-Meter Relay, 1500-Meter Run, 110-/100-Meter Hurdles, (break), 400-Meter Dash, 100-Meter Dash, 800-Meter Run, 400-Meter Hurdles, 200-Meter Dash, 3000-Meter Steeplechase, 4x400-Meter Relay; 11:00 a.m.: Men's High Jump, followed by Women's High Jump; 11:30 a.m.: Women's Pole Vault, followed by Men's Pole Vault; 12:00 p.m.: Men's Long Jump, followed by Women's Long Jump; 12:00 p.m.: Women's Shot Put, followed by Men's Shot Put; 12:00 p.m.: Women's Discus Throw, followed by Men's Discus Throw (men compete first in all running events)

Air Force's roster includes one NCAA Outdoor All-American (Sam Gilman – 5000-meter run), one NCAA semifinalist (Bryce Lentz – 3000-meter steeplechase), 11 NCAA qualifiers (Gilman; Lentz; Jaret Prete – hammer throw; Joe Nizich – javelin throw; Cameron Harris – 110-meter hurdles; Philip Hundl – 110-meter hurdles; Caiden Macktinger – pole vault; Darek Hackett – 400-meter hurdles; Ryan Johnson – 5000-meter run; Aidan Boyle – 3000-meter steeplechase; Hayden Bullock – discus throw), five Mountain West champions (Lentz – 3000-Meter Steeplechase; Braeden Holcombe – Decathlon; Jackson Connelly – 4x100-meter relay; Larrier – 200-Meter Dash, 4x400-meter relay; Gilman – 1500-Meter Run), and one Air Force Outdoor Record Holder (Gilman – 1500-meter run, 5000-meter run).

Ten Falcons hail from the state of Colorado, including two – Braeden Holcombe and Aaliyah Ricketts – from the Colorado Springs/Monument area. The squad's Centennial State roster also includes individuals from Aurora (Jackson Connelly, Allyah Marlett), Brighton (Cameron Harris), Fruita (Jadyn Heil), Highlands Ranch (Jayden Nats), Parker (Ryan Johnson), Penrose (Shayla Padilla) and Sterling (Jace Pittman).
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU
Air Force will host two meets at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex this spring – the Front Range Open on Saturday, April 8, and the Air Force Twilight Open on Friday, May 5.

The Falcons split for a pair of meets next weekend. Part of the squad will travel to San Diego for the 44th-annual Aztec Invitational, while the rest of the team returns to Pueblo for the Spank Blasing Invitational.
