Early offense paves way for Falcons 12-6 win

SAN DIEGO- A six-run opening inning for Air Force jolted the visitors in front in Sunday's series finale, as the Falcons rode the quick-strike offense to a 12-6 win.

Blake Covin had a career day, going 5-6 (HR, 2B, 3 RBI) including two hits in the 1st. His five hits marks a new career-high, while the senior also stole two bases.

After a sluggish start at the plate, Covin is now 16-29 (.551) over his last seven games.

Jake Greiving was 3-6 with a career-high 5 RBI, as Greiving's three-run homer in the 1st extended the Air Force lead to 5-0. Greiving also doubled home two runs in 5th.

Sam Kulasingam kept his on-base streak alive, as the junior has now reached base in 20-consecutive games. The junior was 2-5 with 2 RBI and a walk.

Trayden Tamiya was 2-5 as well, as the Falcons second baseman made his debut in the cleanup spot. Tamiya opened the scoring with a two-run double in the 1st.

Walker Zapp made his first start of the season en route to picking up his first collegiate hit. The C4C managed an infield single in the 6th to record his first-career knock.

With 16 hits, the Falcons set a new season-high.

Seungmin Shim was able to work with a six-run lead before throwing a pitch, while the lefty made sure to keep the Aztecs at bay. Shim tossed 4.0 inning, allowing four runs (three earned) to go with five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Zach Peters picked up the win after entering in the 5th as the sophomore allowed two runs on three hits over his 1.1 innings.

Jake Sansing continues to be a stopper in the bullpen. The senior surrendered just two hits over 2.2 scoreless inning, picking up four strikeouts over his 11 batters faced.

Sawyer Hawks entered in the 9th and was superb, striking out two of the three batters he faced to toss a perfect frame.

Next, the Falcons make their long-awaited home debut, as Air Force hosts Kansas State for a two-game midweek series. Opening day for the Falcons is set for Tuesday, March 28 at 1:00 pm MT.
