The Mustangs put up their two strikes in the first half, led off by an impressive long ball assist from Nathan Colley to Jackson Kestler who one-touched it in over the Falcon keeper Jakob Stone (15').
In the 42nd minute, Cal Poly struck again as Ashton Alonge assisted Luke Schaffer who was able to get Stone off center. At the halftime horn, Poly took seven shots to the Falcons' five.
Junior keeper Josh Spence entered the match for Air Force out of the halftime break. Spence helped keep Poly scoreless in the second half but was not tested with a shot on target.
In the 75th minute, a foul inside the AF box yielded Remi Smith a penalty kick opportunity. Smith finished with a low beam to center-right off the right foot to bring the Falcons back to life. Air Force continued to apply pressure, highlighted by a rocket off the post by Aidan Grubbs in the 85th minute to put Cal Poly on alert. AF fired off five shots in the second half but was ultimately unable to score the equalizer.
At the final horn, Air Force took 10 shots to Mustang's 11, four of which were on the Cal Poly goal. The Falcons' Kobey Stoup, Federico Mion and Wills Burns clocked all 90 minutes of action in the defensive effort.
Next up, the Falcons return home to close out the non-conference slate against San Francisco, Saturday, September 23 at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Action is slated for 6 p.m. MT.
