COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Air Force captured three weekly cross country awards from the Mountain West this afternoon (Sept. 19) – a tally that matched the program's largest weekly haul. Sophomore Brenton Maddox was named the MW Men's Runner of the Week, while Patrick Lawson and Michaela Workman captured the conference's Freshman of the Week accolades for their respective squads.
Maddox (Clovis, Calif.) was the Falcons' top finisher at the Roadrunner Invitational on Sept. 16, clocking an 8K time of 25:12.82 to finish fifth out of 108 overall runners and lead Air Force to the men's team title. Maddox, who paced the Falcons to a 28-point, 3-4-6-7-8 scoring finish in the collegiate standings, helped the young men's squad to a 23-point victory over a field that included the top-ranked NCAA DII team (Mines, 51 points) and several other nationally-mentioned squads.
Recording the top finish by a freshman in the meet, Lawson (Havertown, Pa.) clocked an 8K debut of 25:29.35 to help Air Force to the team title. Finishing 10th in the overall field (and eighth among collegiates), Lawson was the Falcons' No. 5 finisher. On the women's side, Workman (Leesburg, Va.) was the Falcons' top finisher in the 6K race around Denver's Washington Park, clocking a time of 22:53.58 to finish ninth out of 79 runners and lead the women to a third-place finish in the team standings.
