Falcons Kick Off Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team kicked off the 2023-24 season on Sept. 29 with the first Friday Night Fights of the season – a nine-bout card that included the reigning NCBA champion at 147-pounds Luke Kohout.
The junior earned the team's Dawg of the Week honor (formerly known as the Boxer of the Week) as he closed out the night with a 161-pound victory over sophomore Neo Takazawa. Junior Andrew Lu defeated sophomore Carson Watkins in a 128-pound contest, while senior Dylan West picked up a 145-pound win over sophomore Kamari Johnson and senior Andrew Ison decisioned classmate Keillan Laurenceau in a 172-pound contest. Sophomore Jake Edwards rounded out the men's returning winners, as he picked up a split decision over freshman Michael Scappaticci in a 159-pound contest.
Freshman Josh White picked up his first collegiate victory with a referee-stopped win (second round) over classmate Mark Albert Alano at 175 pounds, while fellow freshman Geoffrey Kim earned a split decision over classmate Kenichiro Leong at 153 pounds.
On the women's side, junior Peyton Glenn earned a 150-pound win over sophomore Chinonye Mbanugo in the 150-pound weight division – and the first fight of the season, while Nikki Owaluwalu defeated sophomore Elise Bell at 148 pounds.
Air Force returns to the Cadet Gym next week (Oct. 6) for another round of Friday Night Fights.
