U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. --- The Air Force golf team sits in third place after the first day of the Commander-in-Chiefs Cup, Monday, Oct. 14, at the Scottsdale National Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The tournament was originally scheduled for the Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla. Due to the impacts of Hurricane Milton, the Commander-in-Chief's Cup was re-located to the Scottsdale National GC. The event was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but has been shortened to 36 holes due to the change of venue. Due to the short notice, spectators will not be permitted.
In most college tournaments, five golfers play for each team and the top four count. However, in the CIC Cup, teams play eight golfers with the top six counting.
Army leads the tournament with a 431 (-1). Navy is second at 433 (+1) and Air Force is third at 444 (+12).
Senior Chris Park and junior Brooks Morrell led the Falcons on the first day, each shooting an even-par 72. Morrell made four birdies and four bogeys while Park had two birdies and two bogeys. Sophomore Eli Huntington shot 74, followed by Alvaro Fonseca and Eric Liveringhouse at 75, Cameron Kahle (76), Carson Baker (79) and Ted Davenport (80).
Army's John Heckel, Jr., leads all individuals at 64 (-8). Navy's Chip Deegan is second at 70 (-2). Park and Morell are tied for third at 72 (even).
The final round begins at 6:00 am PT on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
