
Women’s Tennis takes on ITA Regionals

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Air Force Women's Tennis took on ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Cruces, starting on Thursday, Oct. 17. The Falcons were unable to secure bids to advance in NCAA/ITA fall tournaments, but did experience success across the board throughout their stay in Las Cruces.
Freshman Shivaani Selvan picked up a pair of singles victories to qualify for the main singles draw. The Falcon newcomer defeated Colorado's Anya Nelson, 6-1, 6-3 in the qualifying round of 32, then downed UTEP's Hannah Telzynska, 6-4, 6-1. In the main, Selvan fell in the opening round in straight sets to CU's Pia Rebec, then picked up one final victory in the main consolation qualifying round, defeating Colorado State graduate senior Victoria Erechtchenko, 7-5, 6-2. In the round of 32 of the back draw, Selvan withdrew from competition due to time constraints brought on by weather.
Senior Alexis Odom went 1-1 in singles competition. Facing Boise State's Bhakti Shah, Odom scored a win in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 battle, before falling in a tight, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 contest in the Round of 32 against UNLV's Cindy Hu.
Freshman Maya Michalski, after falling out of qualifying in open singles, earned a pair of wins on the weekend in extra matches, defeating UNM's Maria Matsoukatidi, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6, and BYU's Sue Yan Tan, 8-6, in an eight-game proset.
Odom/Selvan, pairing up in open doubles for the first time this season, went 1-1 on the weekend, defeating Weber State's Li Yang Ping An/Alicia Morales, 8-3, before falling in the round of 32 to Denver's Andrea Beltran/Marley Lambert.
