Samantha Villa, Maya Lee Earn Wins over Navy

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Samantha Villa and freshman Maya Lee captured victories over Navy this evening (Oct. 4), as the Air Force boxing team hosted the Midshipmen in their annual service academy showdown. Backed by the victories from Villa and Lee, the women split a four-bout card with their counterparts from Annapolis.
Villa picked up the Falcons' first win of the night, as she earned a unanimous decision over Stephanie Galindo in a 125-pound bout, while Lee – in her first collegiate bout – swept the judges' votes in her 156-pound bout with Cami Johnson. Junior Elise Bell dropped a decision to Emily Spender at 149 points, while sophomore Julianna Morris suffered a narrow split decision at 135 pounds (Erin Nicastro) to round out the women's 2-2 split.
Five members of the men's team also competed on Friday. Sophomore Noah Gilley dropped a 156-pound decision to Gonzolo Rojas, while freshman Cedric Gordon Jr. suffered a split decision loss to Pape Dauola Traore in a 144-pound contest.. Senior Andrew Lu fell to Anthony Hom at 132 pounds, while – at 156 pounds – Nile Owens suffered a referee-stopped loss in the second of his contest with Nick Smith, and junior Jake Edwards retired in the second round of his bout with Luca Fimiam.
