Air Force Falls At #21/21 Army In CIC Battle, 20-3

The Falcons held the nation's leading rushing team to just 207 yards on the ground, but the offense was held to just one score, including none in the second half.
The Falcons held Army to just two field goals in the first half. The Black Knights scored the first field goal on its first drive and then went ahead 6-0 on a 32-yard field goal by Trey Gronette with 12:37 to play in the second quarter.
The Air Force offense finally got going in the second quarter, capping a 12-play, 49-yard drive with a 32-yard field goal by Matthew Dapore to make it a 6-3 game with 1:27 to play in the second. The Air Force defense held Army to just one-yard rushing in the second quarter.
The Falcons were unable to get any closer the rest of the way out, as Army scored a pair of touchdowns and hauled in three interceptions in the second-half. After holding Army to just 50 yards on the ground in the first-half, the Black Knight's were able to get its run-game going with 157 yards in the second half.
Sophomore quarterback Quentin Hayes, who was making his second-career start, led Air Force with 61 yards rushing on 22 carries. Hayes also completed seven passes on 14 attempts. Junior wide receiver Cade Harris tied his career-high with five receptions, good for 52 yards. Sophomore defensive back Lincoln Tuioti-Mariner led the defense with a career-high eight tackles.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Nov. 9, hosting Fresno State. The game kicks at 7:45 pm MT and will be televised by FS1.
