
Air Force beats Army and Navy for 11th straight President’s Trophy

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team earned its 11th straight President's Trophy be defeating Army and Navy, Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Academy's Cadet Rifle Range.
Air Force shot a new President's Trophy record score of 5890, followed by Navy (5860), Army (5823) and Coast Guard (4719).
In most NCAA rifle matches, the top four scores count toward the team total. However, in the President's Trophy, teams count the top five scores. The first President's Trophy was contested in 1998 and Air Force has won 12 titles, while Army has eight and Navy has seven.
Senior Lauren Hurley was second in aggregate score with an 1182, including a season-best 598 in air rifle. Freshman teammate Lily Wytko was third at 1179, also shooting a career-best 598 in air rifle. Freshman Bethany Butler tied for third with a career best 1179. Junior Victoria Leppert was fifth with an 1174.
Butler won the smallbore competition with a career-best 593. Hurley was fifth in smallbore at 584 and sophomore William Steen shot a career-best 582.
Hurley and Wytko both shot 598 in air rifle, with Hurley taking the top spot with 52 centers. Leppert was fourth in air rifle (597) and Rockett was sixth (594).
Air Force will battle Army in a dual meet on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 8:30 am at the Olympic Training Center.
