
Air Force hosts President’s Trophy, Nov. 2

This Week: The sixth-ranked Air Force rifle team will battle No. 9 Army and No. 13 Navy for the President's Trophy, Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 am, at the Cadet Rifle Range. The Falcons will then face Army in a dual meet on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Olympic Training Center. Live scoring on both days will be available at MegaLink.
About the President's Trophy: Air Force has won 11 President's Trophy titles, including the last 10 straight. Army has won the title eight times, while Navy has seven titles. The first President's Trophy match was contested in 1998 against Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and U.S. Merchant Marine. In 1998, Army was the host site for the inaugural event, as Navy won its first of seven titles. Prior to 2003, scoring for the match was based on the 120/40 shot scoring system for both smallbore and air rifle. The new system was implemented in 2004 with a 60/60 shot system for both rifles. The President's Trophy uses five counting scores, rather than the usual four counters in the NCAA format. The match is held annually in November and is rotated between the three academies.

Scott Rockett was fourth (1179), followed by Peninah D'Souza (1177) and Victoria Leppert (1176).
Last Year vs. Army: The Falcons defeated Army in a dual match, 4711-4693, Nov. 5, in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons had to come from behind for the victory as Army won the smallbore, 2334-2331. Air Force won the air rifle with a 2380-2359 score. Lauren Hurley shot an 1174 while Victoria Leppert and Scott Rockett each shot an 1173. In air rifle, Leppert shot a 595 and Hurley shot a 594.

The Falcons claimed the top five spots in aggregate as senior Lauren Hurley won with a score of 1181. Freshman Lilian Wytko was second (1180), senior Scott Rockett was third (1179), junior Victoria Leppert was fourth (1172) and sophomore Megan Torrence was fifth (1170). Rockett won the smallbore with a 589. Wytko was second (586) and Hurley was third (584). Hurley won the air rifle with a 597. Torrence was second (595) and Leppert was third (594).
NCAA Rankings: Air Force's 4719 on Oct. 12 is the 18th best score in the nation this season. Air Force's aggregate average of 4718.0 is the seventh best in the nation. The air rifle score of 2383 on Oct. 12 is the sixth best in the nation and the fifth best in school history. Lauren Hurley's aggregate score of 1188 on Oct. 12 is tied as the 14th best in the nation.
