Falcons Kick Off Wing Open with Eight Tournament Bouts

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The 2024 Wing Open Tournament got underway in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room this evening (Feb. 13), as 16 contenders stepped into the ring for the right to advance to the next round of competition. The eight-bout card featured three semifinal and five quarterfinal contests, while sophomore KJ Johnson was named the team's Boxer of the Week.
The semifinal round included both corners of the 132-pound bracket. Freshman Dominic Feliz decisioned newcomer James Burnias in the first contest, while Johnson made quick work of freshman Samuel Adler in the second, as the referee stopped their bout before the first bell. Sophomore Carson Watkins earned his spot in the 119-pound championship after taking a decision over freshman Sungmin Park to round out Tuesday's semifinal lineup.

Freshman Noah Gilley and sophomore Jaxon Wardle won their 156-pound quarterfinal bouts before the final bell, as Gilley defeated classmate Christian Ugali in the second round and Wardle claimed his referee-stopped win over freshman Connor Strawn in the third. Freshman Geoffrey Kim earned the decision in his 147-pound quarterfinal with classmate Curtis Jett to close out the men's results. On the women's side, freshman Naomi Brabham advanced in the 112-pound bracket following a referee-stopped (first round) win over classmate Rachel Prior, while junior Cass Rosa advanced in her second Wing Open after decisioning freshman Samantha Villa in a 125-pound bout.
