
Women's Swim & Dive aiming to make splash at MW Championships

The Air Force women's swimming and diving team has its sights set on the CRWC Natatorium in Houston this week, as the Falcons are set to take part in the 2024 Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 21 and will run through Saturday, February 24. Following a sixth-place finish a season ago, Air Force will aim to best its 825.5 point-total in 2023.

-The most recent action including the competing swimmers and divers heading to Houston was January 26-27, when the Falcons competed in a dual meet against Seattle before traveling up to Denver for the Colorado Sprint Championships.
-On Senior Night at Cadet Natatorium, Air Force swam to a 145.00-56.00 win over Seattle to send the class of 2024 out in style.
-The splendor of the C1C's final performance at home began with the Air Force 400 Medley Relay team of Anna Ashley, Mandy Fleetwood, Shayla Markle, and Lily Bachl posting a winning time of 3:47.55.
-In her only other race, Fleetwood won the 200 Breaststroke after touching out at 2:18.55.
-Following the relay, Katie Andrist proceeded to win the 1000 Freestyle with a 10:24.65. Jessica Smith (10:45.55) and Natalie Gembicki (10:45.79) finished second and third, respectively.
-Andrist was also the top placer in the 500 Freestyle, as her 5:07.35 finished ahead of the second-place swimmer by more than 30 seconds.
-Lauren Arnold provided a 1:52.34 to win the 200 Freestyle, edging out teammate Abby Turner (1:52.39) by .05 seconds. Arnold also finished second in the 200 Butterfly (2:05.20).
-Continuing the theme of Air Force triumph, Ryan Mills (23.72) and Alex Clark (23.74) managed the top two spots in the 50 Freestyle. Clark also added a race win in the 200 Backstroke (2:04.22).
-Abigail Hardy maintained her rousing form, earning a victory in the 200 Butterfly as the result of her 2:04.21.
-Doing so in her final swim at Cadet Natatorium, Kara Gavin earned a win in the 100 Freestyle, posting a 52.25. Freshman Kirsten Lee was second with a 52.83.
- Following the events of Friday's Senior Night celebration, Air Force immediately returned to the pool to compete at the Colorado Sprint Championships against Denver and Seattle. The Falcons scored 108.00 points to place second among the three teams.
-C4C Amber Martin advanced to the final round of the 50 Butterfly where the freshman swam to a winning time of 24.91. Her time in the event now stands as her own personal best.
-In the 50 Backstroke, Anna Ashley placed third, clocking in in at 26.51. The 50 Breaststroke Finals saw Maeve Linscott touch out at 29.60 to earn a third-place standing. In the same event, her 29.45 in her semifinal swim became her new personal benchmark in the event.
-Abby Turner proceeded to finish third in the 50 Freestyle Finals, closing the race with a 23.52.
-In the lone heat of the 200 Freestyle, Ryan Mills offered the Falcons their strongest time following her 1:51.59. Mills would go on to place fourth in the race.
-The 200 IM was also a one-off, where Lauren Arnold (2:06.11) and Alex Clark (2:06.25) slotted in the fourth and fifth positions.
-In the initial race of the day, Ashley, Mills, Mandy Fleetwood, and Shayla Markle comprised Air Force's quickest time, combining for a 1:44.37 in the 200 Medley Relay.
-Clark, Mills, Turner, and Kai-Min Tsuei closed the afternoon with the 200 Freestyle Relay, as the foursome's 1:33.80 was good for second among the seven teams.
