Air Force continues on at Mountain West Championships

HOUSTON- As the 2024 Mountain West Championships continue, Air Force maintained its own brand of success. The Falcons, competing in a variety of events on Thursday, produced program-best swims in the second day of the conference meet.
Alex Clark, the Falcons highest-placer in the 200 IM, clocked in at 2:03.07 in the preliminary round of the event, situating herself in the consolation finals. There, Clark bested her earlier swim to notch a 2:02.25. Clark, already owning the fifth-best time in the 200 IM in school history, further secured her place in the record book.
The junior awarded the Falcons 15 team points with her new lifetime best swim.
The 500 Freestyle included Katie Andrist, a 2023 All-Conference qualifier in the same swim, as well as Lauren Arnold.
Both swimmers raced to slots in the consolation finals, with Arnold placing 12th with a 4:55.62 while Andrist wasn't far behind with a 4:56.67 to finish 15th.
The two combined to give Air Force 26.50 team points.
Abby Turner and Ryan Mills rose as the the Falcons duo in the 50 Freestyle. Turner's 23.30 earned her team 14 points, with Mills' 23.34 worth 6.50 points.
Mills anchored Air Force's 400 Medley Relay team, a foursome that also included Kai-Min Tsuei, Naomi Furman, and Allana Clarke.
Tsuei opened the race with a 100-yard Backstroke split of 55.46. Furman's equidistant Breaststroke swim saw her touch out at 1:02.36, while Clarke managed a 53.82 in the Butterfly. Mills closed the race as the Freestyle anchor with a time of 49.93 as the Falcons finished the race sixth to exit the pool with 48 points.
The 3-Meter Dive saw Kinzie Etzelmiller score a 231.80 in the preliminary round to advance to a second performance. There, Etzelmiller was judged for 265.70 points to place 13th overall, earning 14 team points. Macpherson did not qualify beyond the preliminaries following a 209.00.
Tomorrow, Air Force will compete in a handful of close-distance races, as the Mountain West Championships will resume with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 am MT and the final round scheduled for 5:00 pm MT.
