Air Force finishes first day in Pharr

PHARR- The Falcons kicked off the festivities of the 2024 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, as Air Force took part in three events in the championship's opening session.
The first race of the day, the 200 Medley Relay, saw James Winterfield, Tommy Nagle, Joseph Moore, and Chase Dwornicki combine for a 1:28.75 to finish sixth. The time stands as Air Force's quickest 200 Medley Relay time of the 2023-24 season.
The foursome's work contributed 26 team points for the Falcons.
In the 800 Freestyle Relay, Winterfield, as well as John Christ, Tyler Surratt, and Camden Swigart posted a 6:34.50 to earn a fifth-place standing. The time, worth 28 points, bested Air Force's previous season-high (6:38.96) by more than four seconds.
The 3-Meter Dive was on the Wednesday docket as well, providing the divers an opportunity to compete.
Alex Kenyon paced the Air Force bench with a preliminary score of 312.45, the third-highest score of the early round. Tristan Trax was judged for a 226.30 in his first set of dives, earning placement into the consolation finals.
Ian Asuncion-Duong (212.05) and Korbin Moyer (174.50) did not advance to a final dive.
The championship round saw Kenyon manage a 318.20, scoring 13 team points, while Trax's 258.05 was worth five team points.
,The Falcons will continue into the second day of the WAC Championships tomorrow, with the 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, and 1-Meter Dive are all part of the February 29 schedule. The preliminaries will begin at 9:30 am MT with the championship events slated for a 5:00 pm MT.
