As was the theme of the weekend, starting pitcher Ben Weber offered what stands as his best collegiate outing. The sophomore right-hander pitched a career-high 7.0 innings, allowing just five hits and no earned runs to go with three strikeouts.
Of his 21 outs, Weber induced 14 groundball outs.
It was another big day for Chase Spencer in the six-spot, producing a 3-5 line with 4 RBIs, his most in a game this season. The junior capped a three-run 1st inning with a two-run single before RBI knocks in the 6th and 8th.
Spencer was 6-12 over the weekend with four stolen bases.
Sam Kulasingam was 2-5 with an RBI double, while Walker Zapp produced an identical line highlighted by his game-ending RBI triple.
Jay Thomason plated the game's first run with an RBI double into left-center field, closing the afternoon 1-4. Jake Greiving was 1-3, walking twice, one of which saw a run score.
Out of the nine-hole, Ben Niednagel reached base in four of his five plate appearances. The sophomore lined an RBI single into left field as part of a five-run Air Force 6th, having also walked twice.
Christian Taylor hit the baseball hard all day, finishing 2-4 with an RBI double in the 7th. Connor Christenson entered the game for Aerik Joe, who came up limping going into the 3rd. The freshman closed the game 2-3 after coming off the bench, picking up his first-career extra-base hit in the 7th with an RBI double.
Prior to leaving the game, Joe was 1-2, leading off the game with a single up the middle. Of note as well, Charlie Jones was 1-4 in his first start of the spring.
All 10 Air Force batters to come to the plate recorded at least one hit.
What stood as a 3-2 ballgame entering the bottom half of the 6th, the Falcons scored 10 runs in their final three turns at the plate, as the 10-run mercy rule came into effect in the 8th inning.
The series sweep of San Diego State is Air Force's first since 2002, as the Falcons outscored the Aztecs 30-11 in three games. The starting pitching trio of Seungmin Shim, Dylan Rogers, and Weber tallied a 0.41 ERA in their 22.0 innings pitched.
Air Force's 5-1 record over its first six Mountain West games stands as the Falcons best six-game start since joining the conference in 2000.
Also of significance, the win becomes the 300th of head coach Mike Kazlausky's tenure at Air Force.
Next, Air Force will return to Austin to play the Texas Longhorns for a two-game midweek series beginning Tuesday, March 19.
