Falcons Split Opening Night of Western Regional

RENO, Nev. – Senior Andrew Ison picked up an advancing decision this evening (March 7), as the Air Force boxing team went 1-1 during the opening night of competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Western Regionals at the Silver Legacy in Reno.

Ison, competing in the quarterfinals of the 165-pound bracket, earned a split decision victory over San Jose State's Rodrigo Madera to advance into tomorrow's semifinal round. In the night's other fight for Air Force, sophomore Charlotte McPhee-Gillum dropped a 119-pound championship decision to Utah's Darina Martin, but will still earn one of the region's two bids into next month's national championships.

The Falcons return to the ring tomorrow (March 8) for the second night of action at the NCBA Western Regional. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
