Falcons Open Competition at NCBA Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Air Force boxing team advanced four out of the opening round of the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships, which began tonight (April 11) at The Revelry North End in Charlotte, North Carolina. Overall, the Falcons went 4-3 during Thursday's quarterfinal round.
 
Sophomore Carson Watkins and the senior duo of Leo Camacho and Angelo Ganac all advanced by 5-0 decisions over their opponents. Watkins opened the night with a 119-pound victory over Vito DiPitro of UMass Amherst, while Camacho won his 125-pound contest over Connecticut's Lorenzo Quintana and Ganac defeated Coast Guard's Preston Cecotti at 185 pounds. Sophomore Chinonye Mbanugo – the only member of the women's team on tonight's card – won by walkover in the 132-pound division.
 
Elsewhere, senior Dylan West dropped a 139-pound contest to Penn State Kahleil Need and classmate Joe Wilson lost his 195-pound contest to Iowa's Benjamin Stimson, while sophomore KJ Johnson was unable to compete due to injury.
 
Air Force returns to The Revelry tomorrow (April 12) for the second night of action at the NCBA Championships.
