Air Force falls to #15 DBU in series opener

COLORADO SPRINGS- With the ballgame tied 2-2 with two outs in the top of the 9th, Air Force surrendered a go-ahead two-run double, as the Falcons were on the wrong end of Friday's 3-2 score.
Sam Kulasingam was the lone Falcon with multiple hits, as the senior was 2-4 with a solo home run. His home run in the 3rd halved the Patriots lead to 2-1 at the time.
Chase Spencer was 1-4, leading off the bottom of the 1st with a double. Jay Thomason was 1-3 with a run scored, as Thomason slid home to tie the game in the 6th after a wild pitch.
Charlie Jones, Zach Peters, and Aerik Joe also recorded base-hits. Jones has now reached base in each of the last 16 games while hitting his way on base in 13-consecutive games.
Seungmin Shim, in his ninth start of the spring, was terrific. The senior southpaw was responsible for just five hits to go with seven strikeouts, as both of his surrendered runs were unearned. Shim faced four hitters or fewer in five of six innings.
Gaines Estridge tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, as he did well to bridge the late innings by not allowing a run.
Doyle Gehring entered the game in the 8th, pitching a scoreless half inning. In the 9th, Gehring saw the inning begin with a leadoff single, but he picked up consecutive ground outs to put a runner at third with outs. In a 1-1 count, DBU's Michael Dattalo lined a double just over the head of Thomason to bring in the go-ahead run.
Air Force was retired in order in the 9th, as Ryan Johnson, one of the more accomplished pitchers in Division I, put the finishing touches on his complete game effort.
The Falcons are now 0-3 against ranked competition this spring.
Next, Air Force and Dallas Baptist will resume the series on Saturday, April 13 with first-pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm MT.
