Fonseca led Falcons on final day of MW Championships

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Alvaro Fonseca led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the Mountain West Championships, Sunday, April 28, at the Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell, Oregon.
On the final day, Fonseca birdied two of his first five holes for a 34 on the front. He then birdied two of his final five on the back for an even-par 72. Fonseca was the top Falcon each day and placed 12th overall with a 54-hole score of 215 (-1). Fonseca's place and score are the best by a Falcon since Sunwoo Choi shot a 210 (-6) and placed sixth at the 2017 Championships in Tucson.
Freshman Eli Huntington shot a 74 on the final day for a 227 for the tournament. Fellow freshman Carson Baker shot a 77 in the final round for a 228 for the tournament. Junior Cameron Kahle shot 75 in the final round and 231 for the tournament. Sophomore Brooks Morrell, who didn't play in the first two rounds, shot 83 in the final round.
San Diego State won its third straight MW Golf Championship by defeating New Mexico in a playoff. Each team shot 853 (-11). Colorado State was third (856) and San Jose State was fourth (862). For the second straight round, the Falcons shot a 298 and finished 11th at the Championships with a 900. Air Force's season has come to an end.
