Air Force places six on Phil Steele’s 2024 Preseason All-Mountain West/Pac-12 team

Air Force had six players selected for the Phil Steele Preseason All-Mountain West/Pac-2 football team, announced today by the publication.
Junior defensive lineman Payton Zdroik was a second-team defense selection. Senior kicker Matthew Dapore and junior long snapper Kurt Chesney were named to the third-team as specialists while junior fullback Dylan Carson, along with senior defensive backs Camby Goff and Jamari Bellamy were all fourth-team selections.
Zdroik recorded 32 total tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks last season. He is the top returner for the Falcons in TFLs and sacks. Dapore is a two-time Lou Groza Award watch list honoree and was a semifinalist in 2022. An honorable mention all-MW selection last season, Dapore hit 15-19 field goals and 34 of 35 extra points to lead the Falcons in scoring with 79 points. He ranked among the conference leaders in field goal percentage (fourth, .789), field goals (fifth, 1.250 and scoring (10th, 6.6). Chesney started all 13 games last season and was the long snapper for all kicks.
Carson is the team's top returning rusher entering the season after recording 493 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. Goff was a preseason all-Mountain West selection by the league last season, but was injured in the season opener and missed the remainder of the season. He recorded 42 tackles and a team-best three interceptions in 2022 while earning honorable mention all-MW honors. Bellamy is the team's top returning tackler this season. He recorded 35 total tackles, along with two tackles for loss and a team-best five pass breakups last season.
Air Force finished 9-4 overall last season, including a 5-3 mark in Mountain West games. The Falcons closed the season with a 31-21 victory over #24/25 James Madison in the Armed Forces Bowl to record a fifth straight bowl victory.
