Texas Tanner Named USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Air Force's Texas Tanner added another accolade to his stellar sophomore season this afternoon (June 14), as he was named the Men's Mountain Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).
The Sheridan, Wyo., native qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in three throwing events (shot put, discus throw, hammer throw) – one of just three athletes in the nation to make that claim. Backed by Mountain West titles in the discus and hammer throws, Tanner tallied 24 points at the MW Outdoor Championships to capture the MW Men's Field Performer of the Meet award and lead Air Force to the men's team title. Tanner set the Air Force, Mountain West, and Service Academy Record in the hammer throw (72.38 meters) at the Colorado Invitational, while also recording the No. 2 discus throw (59.33m) and shot put (18.42m) marks in program history.
Tanner, the first Air Force thrower to earn regional honors on the men's side, will head to Eugene, Ore., later this month to compete in the hammer throw at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field.
