Jay Thomason named NCBWA District 8 Co-Player of the Year
6/7/2024 2:00:00 PM | Baseball
Air Force falls within the confines of District 8, the region assigned to states such as Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, and Montana. Thomason shares the honor with Utah Valley's Daniel Dickinson.
Thomason was an overwhelming force for the Falcons in his final collegiate spring, managing a .358/.452/.763 slash in all 55 of Air Force's games. The lefty slugger became the all-time home run leader in the Mountain West in 2024, as his 58 career home runs stand as the most by any player in the history of the conference.
Matching his 2023 total with 21 home runs, Thomason is the only player in Air Force history to record multiple seasons of at least 21 home runs in program history. His 21 dingers led all players in the Mountain West.
Thomason, who was recently commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, owned the conference lead in total bases (164) and runs scored (71) as well.
The Auburn native adds his second Co-Player of the Year honor to his credit, as Thomason was also named Co-Player of the Year in the Mountain West.
NCBWA voting membership for the District Players of the Year includes writers, broadcasters and publicists. Designed to promote and publicize college baseball, it is the sport's only college media-related organization, founded in 1962.
All honorees will have a physical or long-distance connection to the presentation of the Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear at Charles Schwab Park in Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m. (CDT) to the NCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Year.
