Air Force Football meets with local media

Air Force Head Coach Troy Calhoun, along with senior linebacker Osaro Aihie and junior center Costen Cooley with members of the local media to discuss the season opener. Air Force opens the season Saturday, Aug. 31, by hosting the Merrimack at 1:30 p.m. in Falcon Stadium.
This is the first meeting between the schools. Merrimack finished 5-6 last season, including a 4-3 mark in conference play. Merrimack averaged 26.8 points per game last season while allowing 21.4. The Warriors averaged 304.4 yards of total offense, including 186.0 rushing and 118.4 passing. Quarterback Malakai Anthony returns after passing for 795 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023. Leading tackler DJ Frazier returns to lead the defense. He recorded 52 total tackles with 5.5 for loss last season. Merrimack plays at Connecticut next week.

The Falcons have won 17 straight and 18 of the last 20 season openers with the only losses coming at No. 11 Tennessee in 2006 and vs. No. 13 California in 2004. Air Force has won 19 of the last 20 season openers at home with the only loss coming vs. No. 13 California in 2004.

The Falcons closed the season with a 31-21 victory over #24/25 James Madison in the Armed Forces Bowl to record a fifth straight bowl victory. Air Force was picked fourth in the Mountain West preseason media poll, released earlier this summer.
