USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Air Force Boxing, under the direction of first-year head coach and program alum Dr. Mark Clifford, announced an action-packed schedule for the upcoming season this morning (Sept. 18) – a campaign that includes 15 regular season events, the Academy's historic Wing Open Tournament, and the NCBA postseason championships.
The Falcons begin the year with three-straight home events in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room – a season-opening stretch that includes the biennial showdown with service academy rival Navy on Friday, Oct 4. Air Force will also host four nights of intersquad competition during the regular season (Sept. 27, Oct. 10, Nov. 15, Jan. 17), before welcoming its counterparts from around the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) to the Academy for the second Falcon Invitational on Jan. 25.
The Falcons boast an ambitious travel schedule in 2024-25, with a program-high 10 road events on the calendar. In addition to its traditional stops at the Chuck Davey Invitational (Detroit, Oct. 25), Army West Point (Nov. 1), the Arthur Mercante Invitational (New York, Nov. 25) and the WAC Main Event (Seattle, Jan. 31-Feb. 1), Air Force will also make its first trips to Sacramento (Nov. 22) and Iowa City (Dec. 7), while visiting Columbus, Ohio (Oct. 19, Feb. 8) and Reno (Nov. 8, Feb. 7) twice.
The postseason begins in mid-February with the start of the Falcons' famed Wing Open Tournament. The quarterfinal (Feb. 13) and semifinal (Feb. 21) rounds of the historic event will take place in the Cadet Gym, while the championship round will take place under the lights of Clune Arena on Friday, Feb. 28. The tournament winners will form the core of the Air Force squad that will compete at the NCBA Western Regionals on March 6-8 – where the goal is to advance to the NCBA National Championships on April 10-12.
