
Huntington leads Falcons on first day at CU Invitational

U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. – Sophomore Eli Huntington led the Air Force golf team on the first day of the 14th annual Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, Monday, Sept. 30, at the Colorado National Course in Erie, Colo.
After an opening round 72 (even), Huntington shot a one-under 71 and is tied for 37th overall at 143 (-1). In the second round, Huntington made six birdies, three on each side. Junior Alvaro Fonseca followed up an opening round 75, with a one-under 71 and is at 146 after 36 holes.
Junior Ted Davenport also sits at 146 after back-to-back 73. Davenport made the Falcons' only eagle on the day, posting a three on the par-5, 555-yard, 12th hole. Junior Eric Liveringhouse sits at 151 and junior Brooks Morrell is at 155. Sophomore Carson Baker, playing as an individual, its at 159. Aidan Lee from St. Mary's (Calif) leads the field with a 131.
Air Force finished all 36 holes and is in 16th place at 586 (+10). After an opening round 294, the Falcons shot a 292 in the second round. The 292 in the second round is the best road round of the season. Not all teams finished the second round due to darkness, but Colorado leads the field at 545. St Mary's is in second (539) and Colorado State is third (541).
