Houtz and Vestel Sweep MPSF Fencer Of The Week Honors

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force fencing swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Fencer of the Week honors for competition during the week of Nov. 2-9, announced today by the conference office. Junior Jackson Houtz and senior Mira Vestel earned the men's and women's honors.
Houtz posted 11 bout wins in saber for the men's team, who picked up four team wins at the Elite Invitational, held Nov. 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio. Houtz was instrumental in helping Air Force to wins over #4 Princeton and #5 Ohio State. The junior from Lakewood, Colo., went 2-1 in the 14-13 win over Princeton and 3-0 in the 15-12 win over Ohio State.
Vestel posted a team-leading 16 wins in saber for the women's team, who faced five ranked opponents. Vestel went undefeated against four opponents, including a 3-0 mark against #5 Northwestern and a 2-1 record against #6 Ohio State. Vestel also went undefeated against Wayne State, Cleveland State and Denison.
