Air Force Youngsters Split Card in Battle of the West

DOWNEY, Calif. -- A lineup of young Air Force boxers split a six-bout card on Saturday, Nov. 15, as the Falcons posted a 3-3 record at the UCLA-hosted Battle of the West competition in Downey, California.
A trio of sophomores collected victories against their western counterparts at the Elks Lodge. Juneau Kim decisioned Keven Martinez from El Camino College at 132 pounds and Russell Klug earned a 142-pound win over Jaskirat Shoker from UC Riverside for the men, while Madei Soluren earned an impressive early victory, after forcing the referee to call her 125-pound contest over USC's Serena Mood in the second round.
A trio of first-year boxers also made their road debuts on Saturday night in California. Freshman Garrett Ford (160 pounds, Elvin Coc) and sophomore Mikayla Gangadeen (134 pounds, Sofia Vincent) both suffered losses to opponents from USC, while freshman Alexa Chavez fell in a 125-pound contest with UC Riverside's Lyzandra Gutierez.
The Falcons return to California next Friday (Nov. 21), when they head to Sacramento for the Causeway Classic. It is the first of two competitions for Air Force over a long weekend, as select members will head to New York City on Monday, Nov. 24, for the annual Arthur Mercante Invitational.
