Air Force Rallies Past Alabama State, 66-64

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Freshman Kam Sanders' bucket with 16 seconds left in regulation helped lift Air Force men's basketball to a 66-64 win over Alabama State (2-3) Wednesday night at Clune Arena.
The young Falcons (1-4) picked up their first win of the season, rallying back from a nine-point deficit.
Air Force's Ethan Greenberg, Lucas Hobin and Caleb Walker combined for 50 points. Hobin scored a career-high 20 points, knocking down four three's and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Walker notched his first-career double-double tying a career-high of 17 points to go with a career-high 12 rebounds. Greenberg added 13 points, knocking down three three's.
Guards Micah Simpson and Asjon Anderson combined for 44 points for Alabama State. Simpson scored a game-high 30 points and Anderson scored 14.
The first-half was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team separating itself by more than three points for most of the half. After Air Force tied the game up at 32-32 on a Greenberg three, the Hornets closed with a 7-0 run to take a 39-32 lead into the half.
Alabama State got up nine four minutes into the second half. But Air Force tied the game at 50-50 with 11-2 run. The Falcons got back into the game by knocking down four three's in a three-minute span. Air Force re-took the lead at 53-52 on another Greenberg three at the 12:31 mark.
The teams traded leads the rest of the game. Alabama State went up by two with 3:06 to play. The Falcons held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way.
Hobin tied the game up with Walker feeding him an open look under the basket to make it 64-64 with 2:10 to play. Sanders then scored the game-winner, taking the ball from the left side and converting on an up-and-under move past two defenders to convert under the basket. Alabama State missed a three-point attempt as time expired.
Air Force shot 50 percent from the field and made a season-high nine three's. The Falcons out-rebounded the Hornets 33-24.
Air Force returns to action this weekend as the host of the Air Force Classic, which runs Friday and Sunday, Nov. 21 and 23. IU Indy play and Alabama State play at noon Friday, Nov. 21, followed by SIUE vs. Air Force at 4 pm MT.
