
Air Force Fencing With Wins Over #4 Princeton and #5 Ohio State At Elite Invitational

Air Force fencing completed competition at the Elite Invitational this Sunday, Nov. 9, at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. The men's team claimed wins over #4 Princeton and #5 Ohio State to open the collegiate season.
The men's team went 4-3 in head-to-head competition, facing five of the top seven teams in the nation. Air Force posted its first top-five wins under Katarzyna Dabrowa, who is in her second season as head coach. Air Force defeated host Ohio State 15-12 to cap day one action Saturday and won 14-13 over Princeton in its final match of Sunday. The Falcons also had a pair of one-point setbacks to #6 Penn and #7 Penn State.
The women's team faced four ranked opponents, earning a win over Cleveland State 18-8.
The men's team had seven fencers reach double-digit wins on the day, including its entire foil group. Senior Jack Griffith led the foil group with 16 wins. Freshmen Richard Li followed with 14 wins and Sean Oh added 12.
The saber group was strong on the weekend as freshman Andrei Nazlymov and junior Jackson Houtz combined to go 29-13. Nazlymov led Air Force with 18 wins on the weekend and Houtz posted 11 wins.
Senior Omar Emara led the epee group and tied a team-high with 18 wins, including 3-0 marks against Wayne State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Princeton.
On the women's side, senior Mira Vestel led the women's saber group with 13 wins, including undefeated sweeps of Wayne State, Cleveland State and Denison. Freshman Kailyn Choi led the foil group with eight wins. Sophomore Keira Lonadier and freshman Svetlanna Mandap led the epee group with five wins each.
The Falcons return to action Nov. 14-17 at the USA Fencing November NAC in Fort Worth, Texas.
