USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force fell to Big 12 foe Wyoming, 27-9, Friday evening in the Historic Clune Arena. Three Falcons picked up wins in the dual highlighted by an upset in the 141 class. Air Force dropped to 5-7 overall with an 0-7 mark in the Big 12 Conference while the Cowboys improved to 11-6, 5-3 Big 12.
Prior to the dual, Air Force honored its six seniors: Brooks Gable, Jack Ganos, Gage Musser, Ty Ryan, Alec Viduya, and Andrew Wenzel. Musser concludes his time with 36 career wins and the high honor of team captaincy. Ganos led the class with 39 career wins and 10 dual wins.
At 133, C3C Gavin Caprella battled back from an early deficit to best R-Jr. Stockton O'Brien, 6-5. A four-point score in the third period via escape and takedown propelled Caprella to victory. Caprella, who has taken every dual start this season, improved to 17 wins on the season, five in dual action.
Falcon standout freshman Carter Nogle continued his tear through the dual slate in a big way, this time knocking off No. 18 Cole Brooks by decision, 6-3. Nogle battled back from an early deficit to score a first period stall point and third period escape and takedown— with the addition of riding time, Nogle secured his 22nd win of the season. Nogle is on a six dual match win streak and has eight wins in 12 appearances.
At 165, freshman Logan Fowler took on R-Sr. Cooper Voorhees. Fowler was quick to score a slick takedown in the first period, and soon thereafter pancaked a scrambling Vorhees to his back for four nearfall points to take a 7-0 lead at the end of the first three minutes. C4C Fowler added an escape and takedown to his tally in the second to hold an 11-0 lead heading into the final period. Despite a rally from Voorhees, Fowler held off the Cowboy with a 14-9 decision and his 12th win of the season and first Big 12 dual win of his career.
Wyoming's Garrett Ricks scored the first team points after narrowly escaping C3C Bubba Wright in sudden victory, 7-4. C4C EJ Beloncik had a standout performance in the 157 class, taking two-time NCAA qualifier #19 Jared Hill to the last second. Beloncik, down 4-0 in the third period, scored an escape and got the takedown to tie with one second remaining in regulation. Hill narrowly escaped with a riding time point in the bank. At 174, C1C Jack Ganos had an escape point and a full second period worth of riding time but ultimately fell by late takedown to Riley Davis.
Next up, the Falcons close the regular season out in dual action against Big 12 rival Northern Colorado on Sunday, February 23. Action in Bank of Colorado Arena is slated for 2 pm MT.
