Air Force travels to Nick Watney Invite, Feb. 24-25
THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team returns to action for the spring season at the Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State, Feb. 24-25, at the Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
THE FORMAT: Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Feb. 24, with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, Feb. 25, with a shotgun start at 8:15 am PT each day. Sunnyside Country Club is a par-71 that plays at 6,938 yards.
THE FIELD: In addition to host school, Fresno State, Air Force will compete against CSU Northridge, Cal Poly, Idaho, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, UC San Diego and Utah Valley.
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup this week will be: 1-Cameron Kahle; 2-Eric Liveringhouse; 3-Alvaro Fonseca; 4-Eli Huntington; 5-Carson Baker; Ind-Grant Samuelson
LAST TIME OUT: Air Force's last tournament was the Kapolei Invitational, Oct. 29-31, in Oahu. Sophomore Eli Huntington led the Falcons with a 71 (-1) on the final day. He has been at par or under in eight of his last 10 rounds. Over 54 holes, he tied for 21st overall with a 220 (+4). Senior Cameron Kahle finished the tournament at 227. Junior Alvaro Fonseca finished at 235, followed by junior Ted Davenport (235), junior Eric Liveringhouse (239) and sophomore Carson Baker, competing as an individual, finished the tournament at 225 (+9). Air Force placed 15th with a 912.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Sophomore Eli Huntington leads the team with a 72.79 season scoring average with eight rounds at par or better on the season. His 67 in the third round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational was a career best and the best round by a Falcon this season. He has two top-10 finishes this season and one top-5. Among golfers who played more than eight rounds in the fall, Fonseca has a 74.91, followed by Kahle (75.64), Davenport (75.79) and Liveringhouse (75.86).
