Air Force has 18 honored as academic all-Colorado
Air Force senior kicker Matthew Dapore has been named the National Football Foundation, Colorado Chapter scholar-athlete of the year. Dapore will graduate later this spring with a 3.53 grade point average and 3.95 majors GPA and is majoring in systems engineering with an aeronautical engineering focus.
Dapore was a semifinalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award and was on the Lou Groza Award Preseason Watch List for the nation's top kicker.
An honorable mention all-MW and second-team NFF, Colorado Chapter selection, he became the all-time leading scorer in program history with 270 points. He finished his career 10th in program history in career field goal percentage (.738) and second in career field goals made (48). Dapore hit 9-15 field goals and all 24 extra point attempts and scored a team-best 51 points this season.
He is active in leadership positions at the Academy, including squadron honor officer and summer honor cadet cadre. In addition, he served as flight chief for his squadron where he executed squadron awards, advised military officers and leveraged support and logistics plans in the unit. He also completed a seven-week internship at Eglin AFB where he conducted top-secret research on CUI. Dapore is active in his community with the Miracle League for special needs children, tutoring cadets and helping train younger pace kickers.
All told, a near-record 279 student-athletes were named Academic All-Colorado (a record 192 first-team, 87 honorable mention); the 291 honored in 2023 set the high mark. Eleven members of the first-team were also selected either the first- or second-team All-Colorado for their play on the field in 2024, including all two players of the year: WR/DB Travis Hunter, Colorado (defense) and for the second straight year, P Blake Doud, Colorado Mines (special teams).
