
Women’s Tennis Opens Strong at Jon Messick Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – It was a promising start to 2025-26 for the Air Force women's tennis team, as the Falcons secured five wins in both doubles and singles stages of day one at the Jon Messick Invitational on Friday in Fort Collins.
The day opened with two rounds of doubles, in which the Falcons collected five wins. Senior Arianna Van Houweling, competing with newcomer Yule Kang for the first time, headlined Air Force's opening day in Fort Collins, going 2-0 to win E flight singles. Van Houweling/Kang dispatched of NMSU's Emma Petton/Maria Gelbke, 6-1, in the opening round, and battled to a 6-4 victory in the final over Wyoming's Serina Abriola/Ruby Young.
In the A flight, sophomores Sofia Mavor/Maya Michalski split on the day, falling in their opening match to UChicago's Charlotte Klein/Oliwia Mikos, 6-3, before taking a 7-4 tiebreak to win the third-place place playoff over Anna Pinaieva/Whitney Moon (NMSU), 7-6.
Junior Joselyn Limbago and freshman Alba Martinez went 1-1, claiming a 6-4 win over Utah's Kamea Medora/Hayley Roberts. The pair went down in the F doubles final, 6-4, to Natalie Paterova/Terezia Mlkva, closing at second place in the four-team bracket.
On the D flight, sophomore Shivaani Selvan and freshman Jariahlyn Rhoades split results on the day, opening with a 6-1 set over Colorado State duo Dylan Voeks/Diana Lizarazo.
Taking on the day's lone round of singles, Van Houweling and Kang both were the first off their respective courts, defeating Montana State's Nia Gelashvili (6-3, 6-0) and Weber State's Jessica Hill (6-1, 6-1) in straight sets. Martinez, in her first collegiate match, picked up the third straight-set win of the day, defeating UChicago's Lily Zawaneh, 6-1, 6-1. Rhoades (6-2, 6-3), Holguin (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) and Selvan (6-2, 6-3) also added wins to the Air Force tally in the afternoon on Friday, totaling five Falcon singles victories to open the 2025-26 season.
