Falcons Complete Day Two Of ITA Bedford Cup

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis completed day two play at the 2025 ITA Bedford Cup In The Mountains this Saturday at the Air Force Outdoor Intercollegiate Tennis Courts. Senior Jack Brown led the way for the Falcons, reaching the Lightning draw singles championship with a pair of wins in singles play.
Air Force picked up eight wins on the day, with four each in singles and doubles.
In singles play, Brown won his quarterfinals and semifinals matches to advance to the championship match in the top draw tomorrow. Brown defeated Minh Tuan Dinh Viet of Weber State 7-5, 6-2 in the quarters. He then defeated Lance Urlaub of New Mexico State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Matthew Staton and Tyler Leaird also picked up singles wins for the Falcons. Staton won his quarterfinals match over Alexander Edmonston of BYU in the Raptor draw quarters, 0-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Staton dropped his semifinal match to Tobias Wallin of New Mexico State.
Leaird won his Falcon draw quarterfinals match over Elijah Calaquian of Montana State 7-5, 6-2. He then dropped the semifinals match to Otto Schreiner of BYU.
In doubles, the pair of AJ Moore and Matthew Staton were eliminated from the main draw with a loss in the quarterfinals. The duo fell to Coats/Robb-Wilcox of Denver. Alec Fritzinger and Caden Lee combined to win a pair of extra doubles matches over New Mexico State.
In the doubles North draw, the Falcons picked up a win, with Tyler Leaird and Jack Brown defeating Wallin/Rojas of New Mexico State 6-3. The duo also won an extra doubles match.
"We had another great day at the Bedford Cup," head coach Evan Urbina said. "The guys enjoyed playing in front of some legends who were in town supporting Dan Oosterhous' Air Force Athletics Hall of Fame induction last night. I'm especially impressed with Jack Brown, who is playing some great tennis on his way to the finals of the Lightning draw. He'll play for the championship tomorrow at 9:45 am. The entire group is competing hard, and we'll look to finish strong tomorrow."
Day three action resumes tomorrow beginning at 9 am with the doubles finals, followed by the singles finals.
