Air Force football meets with media to discuss Utah State game

Air Force Head Coach Troy Calhoun, along with senior wide receiver Cade Harris and senior defensive lineman Aidan Swartz met with the media to discuss the upcoming Utah State game.
Air Force opens Mountain West play by traveling to Logan, Utah, to take on Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 7:45 p.m. at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium. Air Force and Utah State meet for the 13th time overall and 12th as conference foes. The Falcons lead the overall series, 7-5, and are 6-5 in conference games. Air Force is 5-2 at home and 2-3 at Utah State. Air Force is 14-12 in Mountain West openers dating back to 1999. The Falcons are 8-6 at home and 6-6 on the road.
Air Force defeated Utah State, 39-21, Sept. 15, 2023, in Falcon Stadium to open Mountain West play the last time two played. The win snapped a five-game losing streak in conference openers. Following a three-and-out by the defense, Emmanuel Michel scored the first of three touchdowns, and a two-point conversion made it 8-0 Air Force. The defense helped again with an Alec Mock sack and forced fumble. The offense converted with a Zac Larrier rushing touchdown to make it 15-0. Michel added his second touchdown to make it 22-0 after the first quarter. John Lee Eldridge III opened the second quarter with a touchdown run to extend the lead to 29-0. Utah State got on the board with a touchdown pass to cut the lead to 29-7. Matthew Dapore kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired to make it 32-7 at the half. Michel added his third touchdown to make it 39-7 midway through the third quarter. Utah State added two late touchdowns to make up the final margin. Air Force rushed for 344 yards and had 428 total yards. Michel had 106 yards on 28 carries while Owen Burk added a game-high 110 yards on 15 carries. Larrier finished with 56 yards rushing and hit 3-4 passes for 84 yards. Mock led the defense with 11 tackles and two sacks. PJ Ramsey added 2.5 tackles for loss. The defense held Utah State to 302 total yards, including just 54 rushing on 26 carries.

Air Force answered with a Daniels to Amari Terry 40-yard touchdown pass to retake the lead, 24-20, with 13:33 to play. Utah State added a Cooper Legas to Terrell Vaughn touchdown pass to take a 27-24 lead. The Aggies cashed in an Air Force fumble with a Legas 32-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 34-24. Dapore hit a 51-yard field goal to make up the final margin and the Aggies recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Air Force finished with 359 total yards, including 264 rushing.
