Falcons Fly Past Seattle U, 176-86, Wilson Breaks Pool Records

SEATTLE, Wash., - The Falcons posted a strong 176-86 victory over Seattle U at the Redhawk Center on Friday January 16. Air Force brought in 8 individual wins and a pair of relay wins, along with Tanner Wilson breaking two facility records.
"The guys swam well tonight," said head coach Rob Clayton. "The win was highlighted by double winners Tyler Surratt, Jordan Falls, James Winterfield, and Tanner Wilson."
The 200 medley relay team comprised of Dylan Ferguson, Bridon Rosales, Tanner Wilson, and Jordan Falls opened the meet with a 1:30.38 win.
Tyler Surratt picked up a win in the 1000 free after clocking a time of 9:24.36. Tucker Rice (9:28.35) and Ralph Fiscus (9:41.00) followed in second and third, respectively.
Surratt also won the 500 free with a time of 4:31.79. Evan Witte (4:39.02) and Rice (4:40.53) helped to round out the top three.
With a time of 1:39.19, James Winterfield earned gold in the 200 free, with Matthew Doty (1:40.28) and Camden Swigart (1:40.55) behind.
Winterfield placed first again in the 100 fly at 49.40.
The pair of T. Wilson (54.11) and Rosales (55.42) took the top two spots in the 200 breast to score for Air Force.
T. Wilson also earned gold in the 200 breast at 1:58.63, while Brandon Cho (2:00.55) took the runner-up placement.
At 45.21, Falls won the 100 free with Christ (45.54) and Winterfield (46.19) rounding out the podium finishers.
Team captain Danny Detjen placed second, highest for Air Force, in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.02.
Sprinter, Falls, clocked a 20.70 time in the 50 free for second place, while Joe Christ (20.71) finished behind in third.
Freshman Doty placed first in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 1:49.27, with Swigart (1:51.04) right behind in second.
For second place in the 200 back, Louie Body swam a 1:48.56 to score four points. Ferguson (1:49.64) and Garrett Kennedy (1:50.99) went for third and fourth place.
The highest Falcon finisher in the 100 back was Dylan Ferguson in third at 50.58.
To close the win, the 400 free relay, swam by Winterfield, Christ, Surratt, and Swigart scored 11 points in first place at 3:02.18.
"Wilson's two pool records in his hometown fans set the tone for the Falcons. I am very pleased with our progress from a week ago," expressed Clayton.
The Falcons will be back in action on Friday January 23 against BYU and Colorado Mesa in Provo, Utah.
