Fellowship Admissions Information

Candidates for admission to the program must be active-duty physical therapists in the U.S. Air Force. Candidates must hold a doctorate's degree in physical therapy from a CAPTE accredited physical therapy program. They must have a minimum of four years' clinical experience upon entry into the program and be an APTA board-certified specialist in Orthopaedics (OCS), or Sports (SCS). Candidates are selected by a competitive board process known as the Health Professions Education Requirements Board (HPERB). All candidates must accept an active-duty service obligation to remain on active duty after completion of the fellowship.
APPLICATION PREREQUISITES:
AFSC: 42B3
RANK: (Capt/Maj but may accept Lt Col with CFM approval)
EDUCATION: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Degree
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years' orthopaedic Physical Therapy experience, but 4 years upon entry into the program.
Introductory/Level 1 training in Trigger Point Dry Needling
The following must be completed prior to starting the program - failure to do so may result in loss of training slot. (List status of each item in your application letter):
American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification as Orthopaedic or Sports Clinical Specialist
USAF Physical Therapy Advanced Course (OZO/PTAC)
FITNESS:
Satisfactory completion of a full (all components) Air Force Fitness Assessment within 12 months of application deadline
No Fitness failures within 24 months of application deadline
READINESS: Any Assignment Availability Code (AAC), Assignment Limitation Code (ALC), or Deployment Availability (DAV) Code must not be such as to limit follow-on assignment/deployments or significantly limit program participation.
Agree to incur a 36-MONTH active-duty service commitment following completion of the fellowship
