BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 14th ranked South Dakota State Jack Rabbits defeated Falcon wrestling in Big 12 dual action, 37-5, Friday evening in the First Bank & Trust Arena. Air Force drops to 4-4 on the dual slate and remains in the hunt for a conference dual meet win (0-3). SDSU improved to 11-3 (4-2 Big 12) in the win.
Air Force sophomore Carter Nogle had the highlight performance for AF, handily defeating Tyson Peach by technical fall, 19-3. Nogle improved to 14 wins on the season with a 5-2 record in dual action. Nogle has two Big 12 dual meet wins this season.
Falcon C2C Gavin Caprella left it all on the mat, climbing out of a four-point deficit heading into the third period against Cale Seaton. Caprella put up four points to knot the match at four, but a determined Seaton escaped the ride, winning the bout, 5-4.
Sophomore 165-pounder Logan Fowler, last week's Warthog of the Week, took No. 27 Marcus Espinoza-Owens the distance. A second period takedown by Espinoza-Owens proved to be the difference in the 4-2 final.
Air Force C3C Brian Burburija was a takedown short against Brock Fettig in the 184 division, dropping the bout 6-3.
SDSU won five bouts in the bonus, tallying three technical falls, a major decision and a pin.
Next up, the Falcons head to Fargo, North Dakota, to take on the North Dakota State Bison on Sunday. Action in the Scheels center is slated for a 1 p.m. CT start.
