FARGO, N.D. – Air Force won four matches in the 23-15 loss to Big 12 foe, North Dakota State, Sunday evening at the Scheels Center. The Falcons dropped to 4-5, 0-4 Big 12 while NDSU improved to 6-7, 3-2 Big 12 with a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
Falcon team captain C1C Tucker Owens got Air Force off to a hot start as he upended No. 17 Ezekiel Witt in an explosive third period. Trailing 1-0 headed into the third period, Owens mounted a reversal from the bottom position and turned Witt to his back for four nearfall points. Witt, feeling the pressure, was able to escape but ultimately gave up another takedown to Owens in a frantic last-ditch effort. Owens secured his 16th win this season and is now 6-2 in dual meets.
Sophomore Carter Nogle was exception in the 141 class, winning his second match of the weekend by fall (6:31) against Zytavius Williams. Nogle was leading the match wire-to-wire, tallying his 15th win this season. He has a 7-2 mark in dual meets and has won three-of-four Big 12 dual matches.
C3C Logan Fowler, the 33rd ranked 165-pounder in the nation, battled to a gritty overtime win against Boeden Greenly, TB-2 9-6, despite being down on the cards heading into the third period. An escape attempt turned reversal propelled Fowler to the tying point to send the duo to overtime. Fowler secured the win with a TB-2 takedown in Air Force's longest dual match of the season.
Air Force freshman Rylan Kuhn finished the dual on a high note as he bested Shilo Jones, 6-4. Kuhn's four-point first period and last-minute escape in the third period proved the difference in the match.
Falcon junior Gavin Caprella narrowly lost to No. 32 Tristan Duagherty, dropping a 4-2 match with Daugherty on his heels at the final whistle. NDSU scored bonus point wins at 149, 157, 184, and 197.
