CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Air Force boxing team kicked off the Invitational portion of its season with an impressive 7-3 showing at the Bearcat Brawl this afternoon (Oct. 17) in Cincinnati. Capped by a win from the team's Boxer of the Week, senior Ellison Taylor, the Falcons collected four wins over their counterparts from service academy rival Army West Point (4-1 overall).
Taylor closed out the Falcons' night with a victory over the Black Knight's Matthew McDonald in the 170-pounds weight division. Josh Gibb and Bryce Spiller earned victories over boxers from host Cincinnati, as Gibb earned a 175-pound win over Brevin Bougruin and Spiller decisioned Makan Sacko in a 200-pound bout. Senior Geoffrey Kim rounded out the men's list of winners with a 155-pound victory over Andrew Rosales of the Cincinnati Fitness and Boxing Gym.
The women were a perfect 3-0 on Saturday – with all three victories coming against opponents from Army West Point. Junior Naomi Nunez kicked off the run with a 119-pound decision over Fallon Barretto, while classmate Nebi Tsarni earned a 162-pound win over Vanessa Hudson-Odoi and senior Allyson Keel completed the sweep with a victory over Austyn Kump in a 143-pound matchup.
Three other Falcons also took part in today's show at the CFB, competing at 145 pounds (junior Hayden Boone, loss to Army West Point's Jaden White), 160 pounds (sophomore Braxton Galat, loss to Ohio State's Cole Jakubowitz) and 165 pounds (sophomore Brock Buak, loss to Cincinnati's Conner Mitchell).
The Falcons return to Ohio next weekend, when they head to Columbus for the Buckeye Brawl on Oct. 24.
