USAF ACADEMY – Air Force fell to Mountain West rival UNLV, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons (2-4-4), still in the top-half of the conference rankings, is now 1-1-1 in the MW. The Rebels improved to 6-3-2, 2-1 MW.
The Rebels got off to a hot start with the first strike coming in the seventh minute from Maxim Scordo. It was the first of two on the day for Scordo who has seven goals this season.
In the 21st minute, Nick Legendre threw a ball in from the sideline where Marius Gulbrandsen headed it to teammate Joaquin Eisenberg for the finish. Gulbrandsen tacked on a goal of his own in the 39th minute to give AF its largest score deficit of the season.
With the pedal to the metal, UNLV's Scordo notched his second goal via long ball from Jacob Miranda in the 44th minute. The Falcons entered the halftime locker room trailing, four-nil.
Eight minutes out of the break, Manolo Vazqueze and Legendre helped Kai Merrill score his second goal this season. UNLV, now up five-nil, began rotating in fresh players.
The Falcons denied the clean sheet with a goal from Sean Odle via assist from Donovan Corbett in the 66th minute. It was the final strike of the match.
Despite the scoring disparity, UNLV outshot Air Force, 9-8, and both teams put five shots on goal. Tucker Kern and Quinn Muderlak led AF with two shots apiece.
Next up, Air Force opens a two-game road stint at San Jose on Saturday, October 10. Action at Spartan Soccer Complex is scheduled for a 7pm PT start. The Falcons aim to make good on last season's two-nil loss to the Spartans in the 2025 conference finale.
