Both teams put up their respective first goals in penalty kick opportunities. Maxim Scordo, now with 10 goals this season, put one past freshman goalie Hunter Anderson in the 12th minute.
A handball in the penalty box led to the Air Force PK attempt with just 12 seconds left in the first half. Hector Orozco, with one PK under his belt this season, was sent forth. Orozco beat Hector Lemos low to equalize at one.
The Rebels regained the lead in the 64th minute as Nick Legendre found an opening in crowded Air Force box, finishing left past Anderson.
Fortune favored the Falcons in the 68th minute as UNLV committed a foul on the edge of the penalty box to give AF another PK opportunity. Orozco was sent forth yet again, unfortunately this time being denied by Lemos with a save.
The Falcons continued to push the pace in search of an equalizer which was found in a set piece in the 86th minute. Xidane Espinoza sent a direct shot from 18 yards out, finishing to the top left corner for his third goal this season.
With the momentum in their favor, Air Force pushed for the game winning goal, but it was UNLV who went on to get it first. A shot from the set piece deflected out to Mikah Madrid who serviced Pol Izquierdo Garcia for a header and the winning strike in the 88th minute.
Next up, Air Force will welcome 2026 MW Regular Season Champion Grand Canyon to USAFA for the final matchup of the regular season campaign. Action is slated for 7pm MT at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons will look to shock the Lopes and the conference as they battle for playoff contention.
