USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Six Air Force boxers secured their spot in the next round of Wing Open competition this week, as action continued at the program's yearly cadet-wide tournament. One semifinal and four quarterfinal bouts were contested this afternoon (Feb. 13), while one quarterfinal contest was held on Thursday.
In the only semifinal on the week's card, Ayo Aweh punched his ticket into the 165-pound championship with a unanimous decision over newcomer Foster Stockton.
The quarterfinal slate included two bouts in the 147-pound weight division and three in the 156-pound bracket. Sophomore Hayden Boone kicked off Friday's action with a referee-stopped victory (third round) over freshman Trenton Blair to advance at 147 pounds, while junior Sam Banduah claimed a unanimous victory over freshman Tavion Duenas in the other contest in that division. At 156 pounds, sophomore Niko Phelps picked up a decision over freshman Braxton Galat, while fellow freshman Garrett Ford swept the judges' votes in his matchup with classmate Rylan Pollock. Due to scheduling, one quarterfinal contest was contested yesterday, with senior Steven Rasizzi earning an advancing decision over freshman Leshan Chen in the 156-pound bracket.
This week's winners will return to the Cadet Gym next Friday (Feb. 20) for the next round of action at the 2026 Wing Open. Competition begins at 4:30 p.m. (MT) and admission is free.
